CNN) -- A candidate for the Republican National Committee chairmanship said Friday the CD he sent committee members for Christmas -- which included a song titled "Barack the Magic Negro" -- was clearly intended as a joke.

The title of the song about President-elect Barack Obama was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column.

"I think most people recognize political satire when they see it," Tennessee Republican Chip Saltsman told CNN. "I think RNC members understand that."

The song, set to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon," was first played on conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh's radio show in 2007."

The GOP is really digging its own grave here.Be more like Rush GOP and you will be in the political wilderness which you have gone into in the last couple elections indefinately.
They defend it as a joke, bet the minorities who here about it will overwhelmingly think its not funny. The GOP tent is getting smaller and smaller all the time with such things and thats not the way to be a majority party which of course they are not and not likely to be in the future with such stupidity.

Further proof that ignorance and racism know no boundaries or have any class distinctions at all.

Disgusting. Joke or not, it is tacky, thoughtless, ignorant, racist, and hurtful.

I never say this, but, shame on them.:nono:

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Would anyone be offended if there was a parody song about McCain or any of the other candidates?

Not that I care about politicians. I'm tired of political correctness.

Obama was touted as a magical candidate that could "change" things. Even though every politician lies.

Racism isn't offensive when it's against white people, didn't they know that already? :dunno:

You will have the so called change but not in a positive way. People make too much hopes with Obama, let's see how long he will last.

Sorry, but what has that got to do with this topic?

Unless you are saying he will fail because of people creating racist music about him...

honestly, who gives a shit - its just tasteless humour...suddenly because its about Obama everyone is getting on their high horse.

just ignore it if that kinda thing puts you off...

It's not racist, but with Repubs coming off the worst election in years they don't need more bad PR. Right now the Americans are still very high on Obama so this type of news don't help GOP one bit.

What I was saying is that the changes he will make will not benefit everyone but people living in the worst ghettos and lazy scum, this at the cost of the salary of hard working and honest citizens. Also his election was based on communautarism, which is lame. This is just what I think, I am wondering what kind of "great" measures Dear Obama will implement. I expect the worse with him not the best. This is just my personal opinion, so don't jump on me because I expressed it.

You have the right to your opinion, and I didn't jump on you because you expressed it. I jumped on you because what you said is off topic and has nothing to do with what was being discussed.

You just saw the word "Barack" in the title and didn't even bother reading the post, just went straight off topic...

Not that I think you put it up to be anything other than funny Legz ,I have to laugh at any contention that THAT is not just blatantly over the top racist. It could be worse I guess. It could have been "Barack the magic Nsomething else".Yeah that damn political correctness is out of hand!

It's actually pretty tame by racist joke standards. Almost child friendly.

I don't understand what's so wrong about about taking a column written by a liberal columnist, published in a liberal rag, combining it with comments made by Al Sharpton question whether Obama is "black enough" and then artfully setting it to the tune of a popular song. The left provided the material, Limbaugh's buddy simply set it to music. It's genius and it's just plain hilarious.

Your missing the point to why this an issue getting a fair amount of play in the american media. This was only a minor blip when Rush Limbaugh 1st played it on his radio show a while back. It's different when someone in the republican party who is actually trying to be elected head of the RNC is sending it out.Rush is a right wing shock jock known for his racist tendencies,if that's what the republicans want to be associated with,so be it.One thing to be associated with the right wing part of his routine but to be mimicking his more controversial racist stuff is really going to cost them I think politically. There may be elements of the conservatives that like it,but that won't win them elections and didn't help McCain when Rush aired it IMO.
But again if thats the image they think is the best one for them to project and is helpfull in them perhaps being in the white house or majority's in eithier house of congress again more power to em.They have been wrong about just about everything for quite a while ,so why should this be different.

a discussion about the sense of political correctness is totally misleading the point.

it has to do with lack of respect of this modern klu-klux-clan in made-to-measure suits. if you want to discuss about the hypocrite side of p.c. you should ask the origin of that joke why he didn't use the word "******".
